2012 Toyota Prius Plug-In Hybrid
ASRE KHODRO: Toyota has released details and an image of its 2012 Prius Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) ahead of the car’s debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show on September 15th. With the latest in the company’s Hybrid Synergy Drive technology, Toyota looks to position the Prius PHEV as the flagship of the Prius range.
aThe latest addition to the growing Prius family features a compact lithium ion-battery that is said to provide a 13-mile electric-only range (provided the driver shows right foot restraint), after which the car reverts back to hybrid mode, operating like a standard Prius. Recharging takes 1.5 hours with a 240-volt outlet or 3 hours with a 120-volt unit. EPA mileage figures have not yet been released, but Toyota does say the Prius PHEV can travel 475 miles between fill-ups under the right driving conditions.Outside, the Prius PHEV features a redesigned front fascia, unique wheels and “plug-in hybrid” fender badges to distinguish it from normal Prii, although details could change before the car’s US introduction. 18 Thursday August 2011 12:51
